Mexico Rocks is a field of coral heads sitting in three to five metres of water inside the barrier reef, a short run north of the resort. Because it is inside the reef, there is almost no current and the surface is usually glassy — which is why it is the trip we point families and nervous swimmers towards.
What it lacks in drama it makes up for in detail: brain and elkhorn coral, juvenile fish in the coral heads, the occasional turtle and lobster tucked underneath. Snorkellers who have already done Hol Chan often enjoy it more.

- For a first snorkel, yes. It is shallower, closer, and the water is flatter than the current running through Hol Chan cut.
