Sunset over the water from a catamaran off Ambergris Caye, Belize

Sailing

Sunset sail

4:15 PM – 7:00 PMEvening

The easiest good evening on the island. A catamaran leaves in the late afternoon, runs north or south inside the reef depending on the wind, and turns west in time for the sun to drop behind the Maya Mountains on the mainland.

There is a bar aboard, shrimp cocktail and snacks, a net on the bow to lie on, and usually music. You are back at the dock by seven, which leaves the evening open for dinner at La Cala or in Tres Cocos.

How the day runs

  1. 4:15 PMBoard and cast off
  2. 5:00 PMSailing inside the reef, bar open
  3. 6:15 PMSunset over the mainland mountains
