Lamanai

6:30 AM – 5:30 PMFull day

Lamanai — 'submerged crocodile' in Maya — was occupied for longer than almost any other site in the Maya world, and it is still half in the jungle. Getting there is half the trip: a fast boat up the New River past howler monkeys, crocodiles, bats under the overhangs and herons in the reeds.

At the site itself you climb the High Temple for the view out over the lagoon, and see the Mask Temple and the Jaguar Temple with their stone carvings intact.
